If you, or someone you know, is/has been the victim of a hate crime incident, the Essex Police Divisional Domestic Violence and Hate Crime Units can assist you. We recognise hate crime, in all its forms, whether, racial, homophobic, transgender, religious, sectarian or disability, has an impact not only on the victims, but also on witnesses, neighbours and whole communities. Essex Police are committed to act empathetically and positively in recording, investigating, and supporting all those affected by Hate Crime with equal commitment. Wherever possible we seek to take positive action against perpetrators and work closely with the Crown Prosecution Service to maintain charging and prosecuting standards.
Essex Police will:
- Facilitate the empathetic reporting of Hate Crime incidents via a number of methods to facilitate ease and confidentiality of reporting where necessary
- Have trained Single Point of Contact investigators to pro-actively investigate Hate Crime incidents in accordance with the victim's wishes
- Offer support to victims and those affected through, the use a partnership approach with other local agencies to explore initiatives to resolve problems and to help those suffering repeat victimisation
- Engage the support from local Community Policing Teams in pro-actively working to keep communities safe and crime free
